BCN - October 15, 2006: Eight demonstrators were arrested today in the continuing showdown between the new operator of ferry boats to Alcatraz and unionized employees of the former concessionaire, Blue and Gold Fleet.
Hornblower Yachts took over Alcatraz tours on Sept. 25 after inking a contract with the National Park Service in the fall of 2005.
Union workers previously employed through Blue and Gold Fleet have since held numerous protests at the ferry wharves, where they have picketed and asked for the return of their jobs. They have called upon tourists and other ticket holders to skip the trip in solidarity with union workers.
