THE PICKET ACTION AT ALCATRAZ CRUISES PIER 33 SUNDAY, MARCH 18, 2007
HAS BEEN CANCELED.
March 16, 2007
Dear Sisters and Brothers:
It comes as no surprise that the Bush Administration's NLRB has made the decision to dismiss our appeal today. They say that
". . . there was insufficient evidence that Hornblower or Alcatraz Cruises refused to hire employees of the former employer, Blue & Gold Fleet Services, in retaliation for their union or other protected, concerted activities in order to avoid becoming a successor with obligation to recognize and bargain with the unions.."
This decision in no way impedes our commitment! While we have been picketing for over 5 months, we have continued to pursue other strategies in the legislative arena. The change in leadership in Washington, DC has reinvigorated our efforts. Hornblower has tried, unsuccessfully, to get $5 per person fare increase for the Alcatraz Ferry since November 2006. This amounts to a loss of over $1,000,000 thus far.
We will be taking this opportunity to determine new ways to bring about positive results for both of our memberships.
Sincerely,
Captain Raymond W. Shipway
